Welcome to my website! I am teaching Physics I this year.
"Physics" means the study of nature, but of course this refers to the physical side of nature, not biology. Physics also shows us that physical phenomena can be described or predicted by mathematics; so we will do a fair amount of math in my classes, though nothing above the level of basic algebra.
The primary topics we cover include motion, forces, energy, power, thermodynamics, waves, electromagnetic radiation, and electricity. We also discuss current developments in astrophysics, nanotechnology, space exploration, energy resource development, and any aspects of physics which appear in the news. Physics is everywhere and I hope my students gain an appreciation of the role physics and science in general will play in their lives. Physics is phun! (Or at least it can be and that is a goal of mine.)
I am in my 7th year of teaching at WHS. I hold a BS Degree in Chemistry from the United States Naval Academy and I have a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver. I bring to the classroom experience with nuclear power, spacecraft and airplane manufacturing, high energy particle physics, and submarine operations. I also bring a love of science, learning, and teaching high school students.
On the side I serve as the Naval Academy's Blue and Gold Officer for Parker County and would welcome the opportunity to discuss admission possibilities with anyone interested.
