Tutorial Hours: Wednesday and Thursday during “A” Block

Grading:  50% from tests and lab practicals, 50% from daily grades.

Honors A&P: 60% from tests and lab practicals, 40% from daily grades.

  1. Rationale:  

Human Anatomy and Physiology exists at Weatherford High School to give knowledge about the human body and the way it works for those that are interested in going into medical and health science relate occupations.

  1. Course Aims and Outcomes:  

The mission of Coach Comstock’s Human Anatomy and Physiology class is to prepare you for the rigors of Human A&P at the college level while maintaining a fun and interesting environment that will create learning that will last a lifetime.

Specific Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Name the human body systems and the organs included in each system.
  • Give specific homeostatic imbalances within each system.
  • Describe the interactions of each system with other body systems.
  • Analyze how an imbalance of one system can affect other systems within the body.
  • Compare and contrast different treatments for disease and loss of homeostasis.
  • Recognize the advances in science and technology when pertaining to modern medicine.
  • Evaluate the cause and effect of disease of cells, tissues and organs within the human body.

III. Format and Procedures:  

The class will be a combination of lecture, group learning and teaching, learning stations, research, videos, and lab work.

Things to know:

*You may download notes for each chapter by simply logging into your Canvass and choosing the appropriate chapter or topic or using Canvas classroom . Most chapters may be downloaded in either a powerpoint or PDF file to make printing easier.
*You will be given vocabulary and/or content quizzes weekly.
* Your grade breakdown for the class will be 50% from test and lab practicals / 50% from daily work, quizzes, and labs.
RE-TEST POLICY - *You will be able to re-take one test each six weeks, or replace your lowest test score with your six weeks test grade. The highest grade you can make on a re-take for an individual chapter is a 70. But, if you choose to use the six weeks test as a re-test, the re-test will count face value in place of your lowest grade. Example: If you make a 30 on chapter 1 test, but make a 90 on the 1st six weeks test, the 90 will replace the 30 from the chapter 1 test!! Classroom Procedures:

* CELL PHONE POLICY

  • PLEASE RESPECT THE TEACHER DURING LECTURE BY PUTTING CELL PHONES AWAY.
  • CELL PHONES WILL BE PLACED IN THE TRAYS DURING TESTS.
  • DON’T ABUSE THE FREEDOM DURING INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP WORK.

PLEASE RESPECT:

  • THE PERSON SPEAKING.
  • THE SILENCE FOR THOSE FINISHING A QUIZ OR TEST.
  • THE TIME FOR THOSE FINISHING AT A LAB STATION.

POTTY PASS PROTOCOL -

  1. PLACE CELL PHONE IN BASKET UNDER EASEL.
  2. TAKE TOILET PLUNGER AS YOUR PASS.

*PLEASE DO NOT GO DURING LECTURE UNLESS EMERGENCY!

WHAT TO DO WITH ASSIGNMENTS

*ALL ASSIGNMENTS DONE IN CLASS WILL BE PLACED “UNDER THE ROCK”

*MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS CAN BE FOUND BY THE GOGGLE CABINET.

*MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENTS ARE TO BE PLACED IN THE MAILBOX.

IF YOU MISS A TEST,

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THAT TEST UP THE FOLLOWING DAY AT LUNCH OR THE NEXT DAY YOU ATTEND CLASS. AFTER SCHOOL BY APPOINTMENT.

RE-TEST

YOU MAY RE-TEST A UNIT TEST FOR A 70, OR YOU MAY USE THE SEMESTER TEST GRADE FACE VALUE FOR YOUR LOWEST TEST GRADE (BEST VALUE!).

YOUR GRADE IS DERIVED FROM

50% TEST SCORES AND 50% DAILY GRADES. UNIT TESTS, LAB PRACTICALS, AND MAJOR PROJECTS ARE TEST GRADES. QUIZZES, REVIEWS, AND NOTES ARE DAILY GRADES.
