Justin Good - Assistant Band Director/Color Guard Director

About Me:

My name is Justin Good. I am going into my 9th year of teaching and in my 7th year here at Weatherford High School. I will serve as the Assistant Band Director/Color Guard for the 2023-2024 school year. I am excited to work here in WISD and with your student.

I received my Bachelor's of Music Education from Tarleton State University in 2011 graduating Magna Cum Laude. I then went straight into the Graduate Program at Texas Woman's University where I served as the instrumental music Teaching Assistant and graduated in Fall of 2013 with a Master of Arts in Music degree. In this time I have had an extensive performance career marching with Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, the Sound and the Fury Marching Band at TSU, Texas Woman's University Wind Ensemble, Tarleton State University Wind Ensemble, the Dallas Cowboys Color Guard, and as a cast member of the Black/White Gold Independent Color guard in the 2011, 2013, and 2014 seasons. I am humbled to have been a part of the 2011 White Gold Independent A cast that earned a bronze medal at WGI World Championships. I have directed, choreographed, and trained Color Guards since 2011 for districts including Denton, Krum, Allen, Melissa, Van Alystyne, Shamrock, Wellington, River Road, Halletsville, Decatur, Italy, and Bowie as well as serving on staff for Black Gold Independent Guards from Fall 2016 to Spring 2018. Before starting here at WHS, I have worked as a band director with successful programs in Bowie ISD and Melissa ISD. I now reside in Fort Worth with my cat Aria.

The Weatherford Symphonic Band has received several Division 1 and 2 ratings, and earned a sweepstakes in 2021. The students in this ensemble are pushed to play Grade 3 and 4 literature and expected to perform at a mature level. Students from this ensemble have competed and placed in the All Region Bands as well as advanced to the State level for Solo and Ensemble.

The Color Guard has grown tremendously, and have received many awards in the last 5 years. Fall 2018 started with several top 5 finishes, and even Grand Champion Color Guard at the Paluxy Valley Marching Contest. In 2019, the Weatherford Winter Guard earned a Bronze Medal in the Regional AA class of the North Texas Colorguard Association circuit. In 2021, the Varsity and JV groups both placed high in several NTCA contests, even through Covid 19. The JV finished their season with a Grand National Champion title from the Marching Auxiliaries in the Color Guard Jr. Division, and Varsity ended up in 2nd place in the Sr. Division small group. The 2021 Varsity Winter Guard also competed virtually in the Scholastic Regional A class of Winter Guard International, which is a international level of color guard competition. They placed in the top ranks and advanced all the way to finals where they completed the show in the top 3rd of the 24 groups chosen to compete. Students have also had success in their Solo and Ensemble contest with many advancing to the state level as well as placing in the top 3 at nationals.

Spring 2022 also brought several moments of success to the organization. The JV Winter Guard was the Silver Medalist at NTCA Novice Class Championships, as well as placing 3rd at MA Nationals. Varsity competed in the WGI Tulsa Regional competition where they advanced to finals and came home with 2nd Place! This is the first time to achieve this in WHS guard history! Competing in NTCA Regional A Class Championships, Varsity was awarded the Gold medal in their round. This advanced them to a Grand Championship Round where we earned 3rd overall in the entire class.  The group also placed third in the Sr. Division for MA Nationals, and was selected as a Grand Champion Winter Guard based off their score. For the second year in a row, Varsity competed in the WGI Virtual Competition where they Advanced to finals in week 1. 20 groups were selected to finals, and WHS was ranked 7th in the nation!
