Hello! My name is Kevin Herring and I teach engineering for Weatherford High school. I graduated from North Crowley high school in south Forth Worth and then graduated from Tarleton State University with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Technology and a minor in Education and Athletics. I student taught at Weatherford High school for a year before working here as the engineering, robotics, and architecture teacher, and as the years passed the engineering department grew and the classes we offered followed suit.
I am very excited to be introducing you to the world of engineering and design. This year I will be teaching Engineering Science, Aerospace Engineering, and Practicum of STEM.
In Engineering Science; Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation. Through problems that engage and challenge, students explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation.
In Aerospace engineering students are introduced to the fundamentals of atmospheric and space flight. As they explore the physics of flight, students bring the concepts to life by designing an airfoil, propulsion system, and rockets. They learn basic orbital mechanics using industry-standard software. We will also explore robot systems through projects such as remotely operated vehicles.
Practicum of STEM is the capstone course for our Engineering department. Our main objective, during this school year, is to provide opportunities for students to complete an internship with one of our community partners. While students are in class, we will discuss topics such as employability, professional communications, life after high school, and various engineering projects woven in to keep the students engaged.
My conference period is 8th period everyday (3:15 - 4:10) and my tutorials are offered every Tuesday and Thursday during advisory, make sure to swing by and get a pass if you want to be there. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
