DPD Deputy Chief to Speak Thurs

The Junior World Affairs committee will be hosting Dallas Police Department Deputy Chief Vernon Hale on Thursday, October 2, as he speaks on crime related issues as they apply to law enforcement. The presentation will be held in Durant Auditorium during Megalunch.
Deputy Chief Hale is the commander of the South Central Patrol Division for DPD. He is also a faculty member for the University of North Texas, University of Phoenix Online, Sam Houston University and El Centro College. Hale has been promoted to lieutenant of the Interactive Community Policing Unit in which he oversees Patrol, Narcotics, Internal Affairs, Public Information, and the Dallas Police Academy.
Hale is expected to speak on a variety of issues including the relationship between race and law enforcement, which is currently a hot topic due to the recent events in Ferguson, MO.
"As an African-American, I don't feel as though I'm as protected as other races because of what's been going on in Ferguson,” senior Aimee Reed said. “There needs to be someone who can come to us and assure us that we're as equally protected as others. I need someone in that uniform to tell me that I'm just as protected as everyone else."
