Summer Opportunities and Testing

Dear WISD Parent or Guardian,

Your child recently participated in the State Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) with one or more End-of-Course exams. State law requires that students meet a standard score on End-of-Course exams to graduate from high school. Students who did not meet the minimum score on the spring administration of each individual test must retest that individual test until they earn a passing score. During the last week of May, first week of June, should your student need to retest, you will be receiving a phone call from the school to talk about tutoring options and testing days. During this phone call, the staff member will be asking for confirmation regarding tutoring and testing days. I am providing that information to you now so that you can have time to discuss it as a family and make decisions that will best benefit your student. Students are encouraged to retest at the next opportunity which is during the week of July 7-10, 2014.

Below are the assessments that will require a student to retest if they did not meet the passing standard. The schedule is as follows:
July 7- English I
July 8- English II
July 9- AM session-Biology/ PM session- US History
July 10- Algebra I

Classes for test preparation are being offered during the month of June to students who need to retest in July. Classes start Monday, June 9th and will go through June 26th. There are no fees for these interventions and we will have two options for the students. The first will be a face to face option located at Weatherford High School main campus. The other option will be an online program. The program we will be utilizing can be accessed anytime day or night at any location where you have web access. You can visit the website at for more information. We encourage you to participate in our test preparation courses so that we can continue to support you with these assessments.

The schedules for the summer interventions are as follows:
Day of Week AM Session 9:00-11:00 PM Session 1:00-3:00
Monday English/Biology Math/US History
Tuesday Math/US History English/Biology
Wednesday English/Biology Math/US History

Should you have questions or need clarification about the summer program or testing, please do not hesitate to call or email at 817-598-2858 ext. 3532,
