Social Media Marketing

Course DescriptionSocial Media Marketing is designed to look at the rise of social media and how marketers are integrating social media tools in their overall marketing strategy. The course will investigate how the marketing community measures success in the new world of social media. Students will manage a successful social media presence for an organization, understand techniques for gaining customer and consumer buy-in to achieve marketing goals, and properly select social media platforms to engage consumers and monitor and measure the results of these efforts.

The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills are the state standards for Texas Public Schools.  

Career and technical education programs offer a sequence of courses that provide students with

coherent and rigorous content.  CTE content is aligned with challenging academic standards and

relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in 

current or emerging professions.

 

Student Expectations (work habits and routines):

 

  • Students are expected to:
  • Be punctual and come to class prepared.
  • Participate in class discussions, group activities, project presentations, etc.
  • Develop oral and written projects to be presented to the class.
  • Complete outside reading and homework as assigned.
  • Develop professional leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Be respectful at all times.

 

Course Materials:

 
Students will need the following on a daily basis:
  • Writing Utensil (pen or pencil)
  • Spiral Notebook

 

Grades and Grading Policy

 

Grades are in two categories:

Minor grades = 50% (Daily work, bell work, quizzes, etc.)

Major grades = 50% (Tests, projects, presentations.)

 

Homework and Class Assignment:

 

Students will be given time in class to work on assignments; however, more time may be needed.  Due dates will be given in class, and assignments are expected to be turned in by the assigned date.  Late work will be accepted no later than one week from the due date and for 80% of the assignments original value.  No work will be accepted for a grade after one week but may be turned in for feedback.

 

Electronic Devices and Computer Use:

 

Electronic devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, laptops, iPods, iPads, etc. are not to be used in the classroom per WHS policy.  Inappropriate use of an electronic device will result in revoking privileges and disciplinary action which may include confiscation of the electronic device during class.  (The device will be returned at the end of the period.)

* Classroom computers are to be used for classwork only.  Downloading, gaming, streaming videos, etc. are not allowed during class time.

** HEADPHONES: May be used when given permission. ONE ear bud only at all times.

 

Student Organization: DECA

 

DECA, an association of marketing students is a local, state, national organization for marketing and business students.  These organizations are an integral part of the class.  They can provide you with valuable experiences and knowledge to become to become successful contributors to the business world.  (They look great on resumes and college applications!)  Among other activities, students may be allowed to participate in the following: field trips, leadership conferences and competitive events on the regional, state, and national level, socials, and service projects.  Please see Mr. Nicewonger for a membership or officer application or with questions on how to become involved.
